Melaleuca alternifolia (Maiden & Betche) Cheel is a species of the Myrtaceae family, belonging to the genus Melaleuca, a kind of evergreen small tree, reaching heights of 10-15 meters with a trunk diameter of 10-20 centimeters. The tree trunk is knobby and curved, with grayish-white bark; the leaves are alternate, lanceolate, 3-4 centimeters long, lacking distinct veins, and cuneate at the base. It flowers from March to April, with cylindrical spikes of flowers at the ends of the branches, resembling small bottle brushes. The fruit is a capsule, sessile, measuring 1-2 millimeters in diameter.
It's crucial to note that the Australian tea tree and the tea plant used for consumption (Camellia sinensis, note: the user used "camellia thea" which is not the standard scientific name) are entirely different plants; one should not confuse the two.
